Black History Month Celebration and Chapel Dedication

It was standing room only at the Halltown Memorial Chapel for the February 21st Black History Month Celebration and the Dedication of the restored Halltown Memorial Chapel. Distinguished speakers included Donaldson Twyman, President, Jefferson County Chapter of the NAACP; James H. Green, Jr., President, Storer College National Alumni Association; Leslie Canaan, Senior Manager, National Trust for Historic Preservation — Preserving Black Churches/African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund; Cara Keys, Jefferson County, WV Commissioner; Addison Reese, Chairman, Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission; and Dara Green, Grants Management Specialist, State, Tribal, Local, Plans & Grants, National Park Service. Musical selections were provided by Wind Gap student musicians, Shepherdstown, WV. The speakers’ remarks were thought provoking and inspiring, and the musical selections set the tone for a meaningful program.
